Back from the dead.....

Hey, where do I start. I set up this blog about 5 years ago then completely forgot about it.

I am now about to celebrate ten years on Skye. I'll always remember as Skye my Golden Retriever was born  in this house in April 2005.

Life here is quite challenging. Employment revolves around the seasons and there is plenty of work in the summer but then the garden requires alot of maintenance. so it is a real balancing act.

In winter it is a matter of sorting out jobs inside, sometimes you don't feel like doing anything.

Today it has turned very wintery with frequent snow snowers but not really lying at the moment. We haven't had a decent snowfall at Sconser since about 2007

I was very excited about setting up a weather station here at Sconser as Weather can be quite extreme here. I will link it to here as soon as I've worked it o

Return to the realms of winter!

This past week has seen days of lovely sunshine but with a very chilly North Easterly wind. There were times when the wind wasn't so strong it felt quite pleasant. Thats why I took the opportunity to mow the lawn, even though I had a raging sore throat. I felt ok all the time I was upright and mobile but when I sat down that was it for the day.Anyway mission accomplished for a couple of weeks. What a difference a day makes it feels like we are back to March.

The garden is beginning to look a little bit better lots of spring flowers and I have been spreading the manure recently collected from Sue and Kevin's croft.

Heather has been doing a bit of manual labour for me but I'm still hoping she will sort out the posting of my weather data. We live in hope...........................

Big crane from Rasaay

A very blustery start to the day brought a larger Ferry to Sconser the Loch Brushda carry a Heavy Lifting crane which has been lifting concrete blocks and steel shuttering at the new pier on Rasaay for the last 2 years.. The lorry had a small problem negotiating the roadworks but was finally on its way.

Both the Loch Striven and the Loch Brushda have been ferrying large and small vehicles back to Rasaay all morning . Loch Striven to the old terminal and Loch Brushda to the new one.


Today has brought plenty of stunning rainbows as you can see from the above photo.

Still haven't sorted problems with Weather Station but have Techno wiz Heather here to sort it out. So watch this space .....AGAIN

Spring cleaning

Well today seems to be a good to get rid of the cobwebs etc. The weather outside is frightful (sounds like the beginning of a song) Not like yesterday when it was lovely and sunny.

Just been outside and it feels warm when the sun comes out and the wind is not quite so bad.

Getting things sorted for when Heather comes up at weekend looks like her flight will be ok I am looking forward to seeing her. No work still but I am optomistic for May.

Still having technical problems with Weather data but hopefully "a man who can maybe will sort it out".
. Thought weather was improving but hailstones again!!!

Weather Station

Well I have finally purchased a Weather station which was very kindly installed by my friend Maggi's husband Leslie. Data is now being received to the base station and makes interesting daily reading . Software is installed and I am now trying to work out how to transfer readings on to this page.

Update today Monday 19th April am still having a few teething problems so just watch this space.

Weather is abysmal, cold with frequent showers some with snow.

Roadworks are continuing and are beginning to get tedious , the only good thing about the rain , it lays the dust.

A walk with the Dogs

My horoscope warned me not to travel today.

So what did I do ,decided I would take the dogs for a walk. After a quick trip to the Co-op a mere 13 miles away we stop at the forest walk at Aros , Portree. No one else was about so I let the dogs off the lead for a good run. No problem. We got to the top of the hill and the path had been blocked by fallen trees, not little saplings, no, big ones that you could not get over or around apart from that going deep into the primeval forest where there were more fallen trees and slippery slopes. I eventually found my way back to the path about 50 yards beyond a bit dirty but "alive" . The dogs suddenly discovered me as if it had been a game of "hide and seek". No more problems , so I thought!

At the bottom of the hill Skye found his favourite watering hole, went in for a dip and Ollie followed . Fine. Then Ollie decided to follow his fetish of trying frantically to dig big rocks up and would not come out. So I then slithered down the muddy bank to get his lead on, half way up he pulls me back down and we land in a heap at the bottom. Skye by this time thought we were having a game so charged in to join the fun nearly knocking my glasses off. After dragging Ollie back up the slope we got back to the car . Then the dog guard fell down and I ended up with one muddy Golden Retriever on the back seat breathing down my neck. and one naughty Ollie pinned down by the Dog Guard fast asleep. We arrived home safely albeit a little frazzled!

Moral of this story is: take heed of your Horoscope.

I'm a bit new to this

plus Ikeep forgetting how to access the blog.

Weather is still cold and we have had more snow over weekend although rain is expected later with milder temperatures.

Dogs and I have been for some walks,they enjoy a good run but there aren't many places with no sheep


Christmas was very quiet but Hogmanay was hectic with a big party down at the hotel.

We are now into February and was hoping to be starting Numeracy course but haven't heard anything yet.

Just off for a swim, got to get into this keep fit regime

Well its my best friend Rita's birthday today so I sang Happy Birthday to her over the phone .I don't think she was to impressed but she's older than me!!!!

Its been rather chilly here today had a nice walk with Dogs and now have a good fire going.

I find it a struggle to get up before daylight which at the moment here is about 9am
and the light is just going now at 3.30pm so I should be getting into pyjamas ,think I should have been a Bear (do bears wear pyjamas)

What to have to eat now there's a dilemma don't feel like eating much definitely should be hibernating. Excuse me while I go and have a Power Nap.

Well I have just got to grips with all the post that arrived whilst I was away

Now today's has arrived with more things that have gone wrong Why is nothing going smoothly

I can't believe I'm actually blogging. I had a great time away . It was great to see all family and friends you don't realise how much you miss them Have done nothing but sort out post and e:mail since I've been back but I'm going for very expensive posh afternoon tea with my girlie friends on Skye but after that will be very frugal almost Sgrooge like!!

Dogs also enjoyed their holiday
